The specimen foil normale is set using a stereographic projection shown on Figures 1a, 1b.

The arrows 
down arrow,
up arrow, allow to select the
foil normale in a smaller or larger set of [u,v,w] directions. Any direction can be selected using the
Keeper. The choice of selectable [u,v,w] directions can also be increased
(decreased) when the mouse is on the stereogram and using Alt-Ctrl-Shift + up-arrow (down-arrow).
When changing the zone axis direction using the specimen settings the foil normale is not necessarily set parallel to the zone axis direction. The popup menu of the diffraction pattern drawing activates a stereographic projection that changes both the zone axis and the foil normale, setting the foil normale parallel to the zone axis.
