jemsMacOSX.app is distributed as .dmg file, jemsSEMacOSX.dmg (Mac Intel and M1 version 4.13531u2024) that contains a fully configured java VM (zulu openjdk 1.8.0_402 for Intel or Zulu 8.76.0.17-CA-macos-aarch64, build 1.8.0_402-b06 for M1). Download the appropriate Intel or ARM .dmg file. Open the .dmg file and copy jemsMacOSX.app to the Application folder (or any other convenient folder).
During the first startup of jemsMacOSX.app DO NOT PUSH the button "Move to Bin" of the security warning dialogue but instead push the "Cancel" button and open the System Preferences "Security & Privacy" and push the button "Open Anyway". You will have to provide an administrator login and password to modify the system settings and to allow starting the application (these messages appearances and dialogues depend on the OS version). Finally push the "Open" button.
In case users of the Mac computer do not have administrator rights it is necessary to change "Sharing & Permissions" of the whole folders tree and files of directory jemsMacOSX (in /Applications) in order to let staff (and everyone if necessary) have "Read & Write" privilege.
When jems is excetuted for the first time, all the files are checked for viruses and trojans. As a result a delay of several seconds should be expected starting jems. Furthermore the jems .jar files are compiled at this time.
jemsMacOSX version 5.1429u2023 contains a fully configured java VM (zulu openjdk 1.8.0_402 or more recent). It is not necessary to download and install the old java 1.6 provided by Apple.
Documentation has been removed from the MacOSX, Windows as well as Linux distributions in order to reduce their sizes. You will find them at the links below, PDFFiles.zip and DM3Images.zip.
